Graphic card update

I have a gateway nv78 laptop with a intel integrated x4500mhd gpu but I want to upgrade to a ATI Mobility Radeon

No you can't I'm afraid. You can't upgrade the graphic card/chip for your notebook because it's integrated with the board and yes it's impossible ;)

Not impossible with all laptops as some do come with descreet graphics cards. However, as your's has integated graphics, it's unlikely.

Looking at the specs for your NV78 there are several models that do come with descreet graphics cards. Your's however comes with the Intel GM45 integrated chipset, that is part of the motherboard. In this configuration it's generally not possible.

..Don't tell me it's impossible because pc world did that in their magazine.

I'd guess you are referring to this article. http://www.pcworld.com/article/148909/upgrading_your_laptops_graphics_card.html. It does state that the possibility of upgrading is specific to the laptop model.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.
