Thrusmaster T. Flight Stick X joystick help please.

I'm having a problem trying to re-programme the buttons on the j/stick by 'transferring' the keyboard keys to the js.  I've tried to follow the manual instructions but am having no success.  No problems with using the js for my flight sim. It was so much easier to programme with the Microsoft Sidewinder FFB2. Either I'm daft or programming the buttons this way is not possible.  Can anyone offer any advice please? Thanks.

Go into "configure controller" or something like that, and click th 2nd tab, then it will show you all of the actions possible, click on one, then below there click "New Assignment" and set it to whatever you want.

make sure your clicking 'joystick assignment' or something similar, as well.
