Been workin hard - gunna reward myself.
TrackIR 5 - worth it?
Here in Aust it is about $250, so want to get an opinion first.
On the surface - it makes sense.
I have a I860 with 4 gb ram to run it on, GTX260 Gpu.
Any advice or comments welcomed.

Well if you like VC, go for it.
Or you can spend $199 on a Wii then $20 on a blue tooth and, not only you will get a console for work out between flights

, but also a cool Track ir.
Take a look

I just bought one for myself. It should be arriving this week (I hope)
The TrackIR is basically an input device, so it shouldn't cause any more lag than a flight stick would... anyways, I've read a ton of reviews and no one has ever said anything about perf issues.
Cheers

Man, I still haven't gotten mine... it's been 3 weeks since my post, a full month since I ordered it, and still no sign of it...
Today, at least, there has been some improvement... the mail tracking service shows that the package is (finally) out of customs and is on it's way to me.

Well my TrackIR has arrived today, after more than a month of waiting for a delivery that should have taken from 4 to 8 days

Sadly, it's at the post office, which confirms it's been taxed... otherwise it would have come straight to my house...
And to add insult to injury, the post office closed at noon today, which was 15 minutes before I checked the delivery status... and monday being a holiday, it's still 3 days away

This thing better be amazing

Cheers

It is worth the wait! Probably the best add-on for the sim ever. You will love it!

havent bitten the bullet and ordered it yet.
want it, but it will force me to admit FSX is more than a passing fad for me.
After a new PC, pedals, REX, FTX, and a few carenado and A2A planes, I am starting to spend real money!.
Am sure the kids (22-28) see the TrackIR, I am sure I will be unable to hide the expenditure from she who must be obeyed..

I Picked one up last night, and of course, had guests, so managed to download software this morning, and plug it in for a brief 'play' before going to work.
It worked well straight away, and I was impressed.
May take some time to adjust to the constant movement.
FWIW, I am still getting 40-50 fpm while using it, so it does not appear to have slowed anything down at all.
Busy weekend ahead, so may be another week before I get to have a proper 'go' with it.
Took about 3 seconds to realise looking at trim, linstruments, andmarks etc is more natural and easy. Reckon I will be able to concentrate OUTSIDE the plane a lot more, rather than just gauges.
Very happy with the purchase.

I have about a dozen hours now with the TrackIR, and it is a major improvement.
There are times when it gives me a headache, but having slowed down the speed, all is good now.
no regrets
