Current system:
Win XP
ASUS M2A-VM mb
4 gb ram
Athlon 64X2 Dual 6400+
8800 GT 512 mb
2x 1tb hard drives non RAID, FS 9 and X only on 1 of them

Saw a PNY 250 GTS 1GB in BB today for 150, is it worth upgrading from my old 8800GT?

The 8800GT is exactly the same as a 9800GT. The GTS 250 is a renamed 9800GTX+. So essentially you would be going from 1 version of the 9800 to a faster version of the 9800. i.e. you will not get a massive performance boost. Look at updating your processor IMO, then videocard with something much faster than the 8800GT.
