I am about to order a GIGABYTE GV-R465D2-1GI Radeon HD 4650 1GB 128-bit GDDR2 AGP 8X HDCP Ready Video Card for $69.99 after $10 mail in rebate with free shipping. It has been suggested that I also upgrade my power supply. I know absolutely nothing about them. My son found these two for me. At 500W they are 100W more than it was suggested I need, but he had difficulty finding a 400W that was compatable with my system.
I'm running a Dell Dimension 8300 P4 2.60GHz with 3GB ram, XP SP2.

APEVIA ATX-CW500WP4 500W ATX
for $19.99 after $20 mail in rebate and free shipping

vs.

XCLIO STABLEPOWER 500W 500W ATX SLI Ready Active PFC for $50.99 plus $9.65 shipping.

Obviously, I would rather spend less money, but I also believe that most of the time, you get what you pay for. I have no idea which way to go here. Thanks.

Happy New Year.

What power suply you have now?I see that you can have or the 250w or the 300w one according to Dell.I ask this because i have a machine running the same card you bought (but from XFX), in a P4  @ 2.4, 1gb ram, 2 WD hd 230 gb, and a dvdrw unit on a 300w PSU. And it works great, i didnt need to upgrade it.

But if you want to go for it, go for the 2nd one.At least it will be good, if you want to update your pc.

;) :)

[color=#333333]Well, it's a moot point now. Placed the order a little while ago for the PS and Video Card and added a Seagate 500GB 7200 rpm external USB drive for good measure. I had been moving files to disc every few days to keep free space above 10 gigs. This should remedy that situation for a good while. Thanks for the imput guys.

I don't know much about power supplies for older computers.... but Mazza that's probably too much for a Dell 8300.  ;D

[color=#000000]Well, it all came in today. I spent about an hour transferring files to the new drive, which I love. It's very cool and was a snap to hook up and start using. It is also pretty fast, so I am very satisfied with it, so far. It also has a very aesthetically pleasing face backlit with LED.
And it will power down if not in use after a while. But the time is adjustable, very neat.

As to the PS and card, have to wait until my son, Tech Support,

[color=#000000]Got the new card and ps installed last night. Both have a huge fan compared to what they replaced, but are very quiet. Both seem to doing great so far, just need to tweak the settings on the card.
