Anybody can explain or have any reasons and solutions

Postby 757200ba » Sun Jan 03, 2010 12:04 am

I have a bfg 8800gt oc.It was on another machine  (at my sister pc).She only used for docs and net and daily activities.
Now i instal the card on my fs dedicated machine.

What happens is not after one  hour, sometimes it took 3 or 4 minutes. But it also runned for 6 hours without any problems.
I have the latest nvidia drivers instaled.

What happen is: some times im in fs9 and the screen gets black and the pc blocks, i need to reboot so it cames alive again. When i get the black screen, i can see the "no signal" square.First time was like 1 hour after start the sim, then there was another time that it took 4 minutes to do the same.I runned gpu-z and the temperatures never went above 65 F and after 6 hours it was ok, with the level D 767 circling over EGLL PRO.Then after quiting fs, 4 or 5 minutes later agin the black screen.

I really dont understand, i guess if the card was damage it would not run , right? 65 F was the highest temp i saw, they say this card runs at 70 and sometimes 80 on full work.My PSU is a 450 w , and reviews say its enough.

This is the model i have:

Can anybody or does anybody ever had something like this.

Many Thanks all

I know 2 or 3 guys, including myself who had 8800 cards go bad. Mine never completely stopped working, but the video card would crash the system anytime the system tried running a 3d application. This included Windows half the time. A scrolling menu would even crash it

8800gt's are really good cards and can still keep up with the 200 series. It depends on the brand though. EVGA, XFX, Zotac etc. almost never turn bad. But OEM or other brands ike samsung, sony, msi, or Gigabyte may fail more often.

EDIT: A BFG card shouldn't just die often, they aren't a bad manufacture.

Too me, it easily sounds like a PSU issue (power supply). Oddly though 450w should be enough for

I had an factory overclocked 9600GT with faulty memory (keep in mind, the 9600GT uses same memory as 8800GT / 9800GT). The problem caused flashing black screens and eventually a total black screen, in some demanding 3d applications like X-Plane, & Oblivion. It did NOT show up in most torture (stress) tests.... Long story short, I underclocked the memory slightly and the problem disappeared. (and then I flashed the BIOS to reference clocks, then sold it.)

You can try that (using MSI afterburner, or Rivatuner) if you wish. Just lower the memory clock speed to 900mhz (1800mhz DDR) (also try 850mhz, 1700mhz DDR). If it solves the problem you can return the card (just don't tell them you changed temporarily changed clock speeds), keep it (you can flash BIOS so clock speed changes are permanently changed, or run Rivatuner at startup), or flash it and sell it.

If that doesn't work, then it might be a totally broken card, a PSU problem, or a problem with some other part of the computer..... If this doesn't work then try running the card in a different computer.

I really dont understand, i guess if the card was damage it would not run , right?

No. It is possible for cards to be defective, damaged, or whatever and still run fine during 2d applications. It's like overclocking too much. It runs fine in Windows but when you run a stress test it crashes.

I got just today a 9800 gt.But im still puzzeled.
WHen i saw it going to the black screen, no flashes. If you take a look above temperature , i guess, is not a issue, she never goes over 65 c. I will try to lower the clocks to see if it helps.I really dont want to see this card go.
You talked about 3d aplication fail.Well once it quit on windows, thats why i though it was a temperature issue.
Thanks
