Video card

I was fortunate enough to gain a small windfall Christmas and am looking to upgrade my video card.
I'm running XP SP2 on a Dell Dimension 8300 2.60 GHz P4 with 3 GB ram. Current card is an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro with 128 MB DDR SGRAM/SDRAM. What are your thoughts on replacing it with a GIGABYTE GV-R465D2-1GI Radeon HD 4650 1GB 128-bit GDDR2 AGP 8X HDCP Ready Video Card?
Clock speed is 600 MHz. It requires a minimum 400 watt power supply. I don't know what mine is yet, but I am going to replace it if needed. The price is $69.99 after $10 rebate, free shipping.

You might be able to move into the 4700 series for only a couple dollars more. But, from what it sounds like, you PSU will only be about 300 watts because you had a small, outdated video card. But I am just going off of that. You should see a huge performance increase, but of course more when you get higher.

Thanks, that was about what I was thinking, except for the 4700 series part. And windfall or no, I am still on a very limited budget. I've got to buy a new UPS as well. This one is about ten years old and the second battery is gone. It's a point where replacing the unit is smarter than replacing the battery again.

You can easily get one for cheap too. Antec and Corsair are 2 very good, very reliable power supply brands. You can probably get a 400 watt for about 40 dollars or so. It should be more than enough for your card, and your system wouldn't be sucking wind. Plus there would be more head room to upgrade in the future.
