Finally got the second monitor successfully installed and assignments sorted for FSX with Windows 7.

Now, just need to conquer VATSIM. At the moment I'm not really using the headset as I like to hear the engine noise and vibration produced from the sub woofer.

Have you tinkered with the splitting of ATC and other sounds? I just figured it out yesterday.

If you have two sound cards or one card and onboard audio...

Open up the Sounds Settings page...

In the "Windows sound devices" section there are two boxes.

Change "Sounds" to be the device you want all the aircraft noses to come out of.

Change "Voice" to the one with your headset.

If you know you have two sound devices and these don't show, use "Device Manager" to ensure they are both enabled.

Hmmm. I have on board sound and a soundcard, but how do activate the on board sound? Thought they couldn't cohabit together.

Onboard audio and Sound cards didn't play well together until Microsoft... I think allowed more audio hardware interrupts. I believe it was RealTech that pushed Microsoft into changing things. Current sound cards and onboard audio should work fine together.

You may have to enable the onboard audio in your BIOS/CMOS before Windows will recognize it. Then get the latest drivers from the motherboard manufacturer.

I have checked the bios and updated my drivers and the drivers for the sound. I have checked that they are both enabled in the device manager and the second tab is not appearing in the sim. If you want images I can take some.

Sure and maybe a DXDiag file?

I had problems for a long time. And then all of the sudden it worked. Maybe it's a WinUpdate thing?

What's more, if you have a bluetooth headset and a desktop dongle, you can have the FS voice on your earpiece and the aircraft sounds on the pc speakers 

I would have tried it myself already, but the dongle software apparently refuses to install on XP 64
