Ok a friend of mine is having a problem with his 8800 gt.
This is all i get from his email.

"While playing a game, all of a sudden my screen became blank, and computer could not restart. When I removed this card, computer turned on. So there is some problem with the card, don't know what it is. "

And this happens everytime he plugs that card, i know it never been oc.I dont know for sure what psu the pc cames with.
Could it be heating problems, or not enough power on PSU?

Is it really hot when the PC turns off? Is there a beep?

I think if there is a beep, not enough power, overheat, well clean it 

Well, i know what you mean, but...I told me he manage to play for a wile, before the pc went down.If it starts there is no beep, i supose??

Can they find out the power rating of the PSU for us? Usually just opening the side of the case will let you see it. It should be written on the PSU, for example, 500W.

Or

Do they know the EXACT model and make of the computer? Then we can find out the PSU that was installed when it was made (if the PSU is the original and has not been changed)

Power (watts) = Current (amps) x Voltage (v). Older power supplies output mostly at 3.3v and/or 5v. However, videocards take 12v electricity from the PSU. Meaning, it wouldn't matter if you have a 500,000 watt power supply if it outputs that at only 5v. Furthermore, bad power supplies have a propensity to blow up well before their rated load. It's best to just tell us the exact model of power supply he has, as that could be the problem. It could also be overheating, or perhaps bad memory. One of my clients (friend ) had an ASUS 9600GT BLACK PEARL which could not run the default memory clock, which would often result in a black screen.

However, what happened here is not clear. Does it not turn on AT ALL with the videocard fitted? Or just crash during gaming requiring a forced restart?

In any case...:
1. Does the computer boot at all with the videocard? Or just crash within games?
2. What power supply is it, get the model, it should be on the side of the PSU.
3. What motherboard is it?

The first thing I would do is try the videocard on another computer that is reasonably similar to the problem pc. That's how I found out it was the 9600GT at fault. I put the 9600GT into my PC where the same problems developed - so it must of been the videocard. Took about 5 minutes. (And since he is too lazy to return it, the memory is now underclocked by 50mhz

Hello, before anything thank you for all your replies.
This is a Dell XPS 630i desktop, and according to specs. it as a 750w psu.Its the one with this nvidia card, not sly or crossfire.According to my friend, he removed the card and he install a 7950 gt (that he had as reserve) and the pc boot up and worked fine.But every time he uses the 8800 the same thing happens.Mostly in games.I guess is a trashed card?
He does not have any means of testing it on any other pc.So i guess he needs to get another.But any ideas are welcome.

Trashed card. That PC can be offered by Dell with dual 8800GT videocards.

Must be videocard.
