Config Comments

OK this is not about the main simming machine, but about how i will spread my

parts collection over 4 other cases... Comments welcome as usual

1: Development rig
  • CPU: Intel Q6700
  • Video: Nvidia 7-something passive cooled, dual screen mode
  • Memory: 6GB Ram
  • Motherboard: Nvidia 680SLI based Asus Striker Extreme
  • Disks:
    • 1x750GB
    • 2x500GB RAID config (for SQL server + mysql)
    • Floppy
    • USB Cardreader
    • DVD Rewriter
  • PSU: 800W
  • OS: Vista SP2 64 bit
  • Requirements:
    • Good IO performance
    • Silent
    • 64 bit OS
    • Useable as database server

2: Linux testdrive box
  • CPU: AMD 3500 XP
  • Video: Nvidia 6800
  • Memory: 1GB
  • Motherboard: Asus A8V-XE. VIA chipset
  • Disks:
    • 1x 250GB Maxtor
    • DVD Rewriter
    • Cardreader
  • PSU: Enough
  • OS: Most recent SUSE linux
  • Requirements:
    • Should run Linux on a dayly use performance level
    • Should be available for minor software development work
    • Can be used as server for games that can run server part on Linux

3: Win XP Gaming
  • CPU: AMD 4200XP Dualcore
  • Video: Nvidia 8800GTS
  • Motherboard: Asus A8N-SLI. Nforce4
  • Memory: ... 2GB maximum
  • Disks:
    • 250GB Seagate
    • Floppy
    • USB Cardreader
    • DVD Rewriter
  • PSU: The most powerful one after the 800W one
  • OS: Win XP Pro
  • Requirements:
    • Must run the more recent games with good performance
    • Must run older games that wont run on Vista / Windows 7
    • Can be used as server for games that can run server part on Win XP

4: Frankenstein rig...
  • CPU: AMD Sempron 64 bit
  • Board: Something NForce3 based
  • Video: GF4Ti200
  • Memory: All the stuff that fits in it, max 2GB
  • Disks:
    • 70GB WD Raptor SATA
    • Load of old PATA drives that have enough space to be worth putting in it
    • DVD drive
    • Half-dead Cardreader
    • Floppy
  • OS: Win XP Home
  • Requirements:
    • Quick change harddisk cages for PATA and SATA
    • Run data recovery tools on harddisks
    • Should have enough space to copy whole harddisks
    • Should be able to read NTFS
    • Should be able to read LBA48 drives whitout registry hacks
