Hard Drive Installed, but . . .

. . . I'm stuck!!!

I'm getting nowhere as to formatting it, partitions and loading Windows.

I have a bootable CD, but I got this error:
Windows counld not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem.
Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware.

Here's the boot.ini file:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect
C:\ = "Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition"

I've read that if you have an SCSI HD then multi should be change to scsi. The new HD is a Western Digital 320GB HD.

I've tried loading Windows CD and it wouldn't go farther than the options.

I've tried the PE Builder, but it couldn't find the iastor.sys file.

One other thing, I couldn't get into F1 to change the boot sequence.

Right now all I want to do is format the HD then move on the to next step.

Your last install saw the other hard drive. It was ready to format that drive but you have now replaced it.

Go into the BIOS and make sure the new hard drive is seen by the BIOS. It should be listed in there.. It may be listed in more than one place in the BIOS. There may be ADVANCED hard drive features which require you select the SATA type (ENHANCED: IDE)

Hi Nick,

My manuals makes no mention of the BIOS. I do know that it is F1 for an HP PC.

Now please don't laugh. I reexamined the plugs that go into the HD and found that the power plug was disconnected. I know for a fact it was connected last night. However, it looks like I may have disconnected it when I placed the excess wires of the power supply into an empty bay drive after installing the HD.

Still no access to BIOS but I set up the maintenance disk for a Western Digital HD and managed to get into the license part. Unfortunely, I can't arrow down in order to press ACCEPT.

Found this, but don't know if this would help:

Edit: Found this:

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE
I reset the video card and I can get into BIOS ;)

I'm formatting the partition now ;D

If you can not arrow down, try hitting the TAB key and see if the cursor moves down.

I use the Seagate utilities and have to use Tab to get around in it.
