New Computer Set-up

I just wanted to see if this set-up that I may purchase will run FSX at high settings.

Motherboard:
ASUS Crosshair III Formula AM3 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard

Video Card:
EVGA GeForce GTX 285 1GB 512-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 ;D

RAM:
6GB DDR3 1600

CPU:
AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition Callisto 3.1GHz Socket AM3 80W Dual-Core Processor

Power Supplie:
650 watt


and of course the OS we all hate... Windows Vista 64bit. :(

What do you think of this set-up?
I dont know if I should go with this set-up or not.

Don't waste your money on AMD. It'll end up being more expensive because you will realize that you need an Intel processor for good FSX performance. A couple of guys here have experienced that and I'm sure some will drop by in a little bit to tell you about it.

Go for an i7 920 (will have to change that mobo too) and the power supply will have to be 750w if you don't want to fry your motherboard.

I hope you end up listening to us (for the sake of your wallet!) ;D

Forgot to ask... Can you OC the i7 920?

Is water wet? ;D

I have my i7 920 (C0 stepping.. which is the older version) up to 4.0ghz no problems at all! and it has been that way for the past 2 months. The newer D0 stepping chips can get you way past 4.0ghz because they require much less voltage.

If you plan to seriously OC (I HIGHLY recommend it to get the most out of the cpu), I suggest the following:

Microsoft, Intel, and Nvidea were in bed together and plotted against AMD & ATI when it came to running FSX.

Don't do like I did and make the wrong choice. ;)
