DVD-ROM problem

My disc drive has stopped reading DVD-ROM discs.

It will read and play: DVD's & CD's, and I had no problem installing FS9 & FSX.

When I try to install a game or app from a DVD-ROM my computer acts as if there is nothing in the drive.

Take the cover off and clean the lens with alcohol (or proper lens cleaner) using a cotton bud. Let it dry. Put it back together.
Tis probably just some dirt on the lens. I clean my every six months or so, even a mote of dust can do this! Also give the disk a quick clean to make sure it isn't the cause ;)

I have found the problem, and there doesn't appear to be any 'normal & easy' way around it.

It appears that modern DVD-ROM games 'look' for certain things on your system, and if it finds them, then it will not run, or do anything else.

They don't seem to like one of my music software plugins. :'( And I'm not giving it up for anything. ;D ;)

I can copy the contents off of a DVD-ROM onto my flash drive, and install that way, but the disc itself is useless in my system until I find a more permanent cure.

Have you tried updating all of your drivers to see if that cures the problem?

Yep, I just did my reinstall  a couple of weeks ago, and made sure I had all the latest drivers for everything.

Unfortunately, I'm 100% positive that my problem lies with a piece of software on my harddrive, and until I decide that playing games is more fun than recording music, I'm just out of luck. :-[
