Upgrade? No Joy :(

Postby mhoffman50 » Wed Jul 01, 2009 6:07 pm

Well I wanted to upgrade from a E6600 cpu to a Q9550.  However, I discovered that my mobo won't support it.  I don't think it makes any sense to by a new MoBo and not go to an i7. And I don't think it would be worth just going to a slower quad than the 9550.  The 3rd nail in the coffin is that the budget just won't allow the expense of the i7 upgrade yet.

Does this make sense or is there another alternative I haven't thought of?

That's strange. Both the E6600 and the Q9550 use LGA775 socket, so it should be compatible  :-/

If you prefer to save for a better system in the future, you will find motherboards that support the Core2Quad aren't that expensive.

examples:

With a Core2Quad processor, you will pretty much be Ok for like 2 years...!

Hmm I understand now...

Well.... you have two ways.... buying a new motherboard or save some more money for a future system.

Personally, my choice would be saving for a future system.

Core2Duos aren't too bad ;) You could get some nice stable overclock with that processor. :)

I overclocked my E6600 upto 3400 stable (for2 years now) = so fly quite well. It would not be worth fiddling anymore with the mobo. I plan to hang on and do a new build when I need!
