FSX wont use more than 4. Any 32bit software will ONLY access a max 4 and that assumes the software is LARGE ADDRESS WARE = SET in its exe file. FSX SP2 is designed like that.. Before SP2 it is not so without a manual edit of the FSX.exe file with the DVD or SP1 version, FSX will only use 2GB
and the OS and/or any support programs is not going to eat more than 1-1.5GB
Therefore 6GB (3x2GB) is way more than enough
Memory speed and timing for i7 clocked should be a minimum of DDR3 1600 7-7-7 however lower timing is faster and 6-6-6 1600 memory is available now.. just much more expensive
