Thinking of updating

Good morning all... :)

I have a NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX Display Adapter and using a ACR Acer 1916W Monitor.

Was thinking of purchasing a GTX 295.

I want better graphics than what I see now.

System is:
Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 1

Processor:
2.60 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 X 2 Dual Core
128 kilobyte primary memory cache
1024 kilobyte secondary memory cache

Drives:
320.06 gigabytes usable hard drive capacity
259.21 gigabytes hard drive free space

Main Circuit Board:
Board: MSI MS-7280 1.0
Bus Clock:  200 megahertz

Memory Modules
3328 Megabytes Installed Memory

I am not happy with Vista and never have been but perhaps that is just me.

Should I upgrade now or wait until something replaces Vista and FS X?

I only use this computer for Simviation and FS X.

All comments most welcome.

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

With the CPU you are using and not overclocking adding that VC would be a waste of money. You shouldn't go with a 295 anyway, you would want a GTX285.

The way you are set-up, the 8800 is fine.

Now, if you switch to an intel i7 and overclock it, you should move to the GTX 285. You would bottleneck at the 8800 otherwise. (over simplified I'm sure, sorry!)

Thanks Steve I know diddly squat about computers.

If I need to get a new system then so mode it be...will do that.

I hear rumours of something replacing Vista and FS X so perhaps I shall wait.

Not sure what else I can do to make my graphics better other than look at some payware addons.

If any suggestions there let me know.

Thanks... :)

Nothing is going to replace FSX for a while... I mean years. Vista, however, is a different story. Windows 7 is in beta testing at the moment and I've read that it should be out any time between August and the end of this year. But release times always change and rarely occur when first expected.

Thanks SubZer0... :)

I guess I shall have to settle for what I have short of buying Payware Add-On's when I get up to Toronto sometime this year.
