connecting for WideFS

Hey all, should be a quick answer i'd expect.

Just looking for the quickest route to connect two computers (desktop and laptop) for wideFS/FSUIPC use. Ideally i'd like to use the laptop for gps and/or radiostack use.

my desktop only has one available ethernet hook-up available which is in use for internet. so the possibilities i'm looking at are:
1) firewire cable between computers
2) pci ethernet card
3) ethernet hub

any suggestions for a quick, cheap set-up?

You'll have to connect through ethernet. Get a switch, not a hub. You won't need a crossover cable since you go through the switch.

Set up both in the same workgroup so they can see each other. Make sure to give sharing privileges to all files.

I did a quick google search for "connecting two xp computers together" and follow the steps.

You put the WideFS client on the other computer. You will need some software to run on the client too. I don't think the FSX default will work like this. You may just want to run the GPS on another monitor connected to your main FSX computer's video card. Much easier.

that would be the other option and would be much easier in the long run. space was the main concern as i would not use the other monitor for anything but fsx apps (i am in residence at university). Thanks for the help Steve, much appreciated!
