New GPU drivers-must  reinstall NHANCER evertime ?

When a new graphics driver is released (181.22 I want to try today),

must I uninstall NHANCER and then re-install after the new drivers are installed?

Also, how about RivaTuner, must I uninstall, then install drivers, then reinstall RivaTuner...?

Thanks..

As far as nhancer,I've never had to uninstall it after updating my drivers. But check your nhancer settings afterwards to ensure nothing has changed.

With Nhancer a reinstall is not needed unless the drivers are not supported and a new version of Nhancer is available to correct that problem.. rare but it does happen from time to time

but you must reset all the settings in nhancer for both profile and global after a driver change

As for Riva.. what I do is enter the settings for Rivatuner and shut down the boot with Windows feature, then exit the tool in the tray.. once complete then I do the driver change and after the new drivers are installed, run Rivatuner allowing it to reinitialize to the new driver... make changes as needed and confirm its operation, then set it to boot with Windows again

RivaTuner, like Nhancer may be affected by driver upgrades and sometimes will not work correctly with newer drivers until Riva is upgraded/updated.. that is why you must verify fan control and other settings are indeed working.. never assume

Nick,

I can't find the post that has the NHancer settings in it for FSX. Can you post the settings again here?

We changed our drivers about a month ago and I never looked at NHancer again after. I didn't think it would change.

The Nhancer settings layout is in a link in this list under: Nvidia Cards and the Tool Nhancer

Wow, my NHancer settings were all over the place! I have never checked them again after setting it up. I had replaced the drivers a month ago.

Just flew a test and it is running perfectly! I locked the frames at 30 and it's staying pegged there using Level D 767 at CDG with the mega scenery!

Thanks!

I may have spoken too soon. I'm getting framerates jumping all over the place now. It will be locked at 30 then all of the sudden drop to 9/10 back to 20 then down to 9/10 again. And so on.....

This has never happened before and the only thing I changed was the NHancer settings. Thoughts?

Q6600 at 3.6ghz
4gb Dominator RAM
GTX280 video
Corsair 1000hx PS
Vendetta 2 cooler

I'm no longer using the TripleHead2Go. We are using a projector at 1024x768. Not even a very high resolution. We've never had the "turning stutter" like I'm getting now either.

When I had the TH2G, we changed some settings in Nhancer for the multiple monitor. However, I have now set NHancer exactly as you show.

Dont assume its Nhancer causing the problem.. make sure you are using 8xS and not 8xSQ or 8xQ for the AA settings and you have confirmed the other Nhancer settings with the images I posted for both Global and Profile

3 things to try

1. Increase the Autogen or Scenery Complexity .. use the tuning list I posted and make sure LOCKED and UNLIMTED frames respond the same before assuming anything else.

go to the next step

2. Bufferpools - see my post about FSX tuning and its use in the FSX.cfg file. Try values of 35000000 and 70000000 to see if they help, if not, remove it from the config

go to the next step

3. Affinity Mask

In the FSX.cfg make the following addition exactly as I have posted it here:

[JOBSCHEDULER]
AffinityMask=14

also try

AffinityMask=6 <---- just change the number from 14 to 6

you must exit the sim before making any change to the config

see if the stutters cease

I am using Vista 64 too.

At one point, I thought you told me to switch to 4xS for some reason. Does that sound familiar? I can't find the post now.

I expressed that was an option due to the higher level of AA in use with 8xS and the TH2go resolution

Try 8xS again

I removed the bufferpool line completely and changed my framerates from fixed at 30 to unlimited. Now I'm staying above 25 even in turns.

Thanks!

Most frame rates are running in the mid-40's, even in Paris with my screwed up scenery in a PMDG 747 at CDG mega airport. It does drop as I get into the FranceVFR scenery. They wrote to say they can help and will be back in touch.

Thanks again Nick!

Good... glad to hear it

remember that frame lock is one of those things that can change in-flight.. when you see stutters when set to unlimited it is usually due to a bug in how FSX works with Vsync.. and limiting the frame counter back to between 24 and 30 usually corrects that

Some scenes will run better locked, which are usually out in rural and some scenes run better unlimited, usually in larger urban but there can be exceptions to both
