There seem to be many schools of thought on this topic and I was wondering what SimV thought was the best. I've seen many that say to use a card r something as a spatula and spread it, but I wouldn't think that would create a nce even layer and could introduce contaminents. I found this guide on the Artic Silver website and I'm thinking it would be the best way to go. Ideas?

I have my own way and that is to spread it onion skin thin after lapping the processor

I'll be spreading when the new P6T arrives. What do you spread with?

A tech suggested using the base of the cooler heat sink which will contact the CPU but I would appreciate any suggestions.

a brand new flat stainless (hard back) razor blade and I dont scrape the chip with it

When I get finished its a nice even coat that I can almost see through


But I do lap my processor and in some cases flat sand and lap the HS itself, which is something I dont tell people to do

Applying a thin line or small dot to the center of the die will work but you do need to be carefull to not use too much


I do not use Arctic Silver.. I use OCZ Freeze

Many thanks. Bye the bye, if I didn't quietly follow your posts when I can find them, I would not have known that the OB sound does not now use up resources and will not install a separate sound card when the new board arrives.

I'm also going to, looking ahead to FS 11 and perhaps Windows 7, save the pennies and get a 965 sometime next year, assuming I'm still around  :).
