RAM Upgrade

I currently have 3GB DDR2 (2x1Gig and 2x 512MB 333mhz). I am thinking of replacing the 2x 512MB with 2x 2gig. How can I know whether my system can take 6GB RAM.
Also, as I have a 256 Ati Radeon HD 2400 will I see an improvement in Flight sim frames?
