nHancer and Supersampling - not available ?

Postby GabethePilot » Tue Sep 02, 2008 5:51 am

Hi all,

This is a plea for info. on how I can get a level of AA that I need for some of the shimmery gauges in FSX.

I am currently using a 8800GTS 320MB card with 169.xx drivers and nHancer v2.3.2.

Now, I can use Supersampling 4xS or 8xS no problem - fantastic results !

Unfortunately, nHancer seems to no longer support this supersamlping with the 17x-series of drivers and the new nHancer v2.4.x.

So, what can I do if I want to upgrade my card ?

I am thinking about a Radeon HD 4870 or the geforce 260. But, according to peeps on the nHancer forums, there is still no SS 4xS for the 260/80's either !

As for Radeon cards, do they support a similar type of AA to 4xS SS ?

Hope someone has some ideas.....thnx.

n/b the "combined" AA doesn't work or isn't the same as 4xS SS...tried that !....in fact tried every combo possible - only 4 or 8 xS works as I like it.

Cheers

Its the driver revsion and Nhancer. The 16x drivers are very old

Its not 'Supersample' 8xS anymore in Nhancer... its "Combined" 8xS

make sure you have the profile and Global both set the same as per my instructions

you do not need to duplicate the profile. the new Nhaancer makes the changes automatically now with the newer drivers

The driver revsion may be the problem... try the 174.74 beta drivers which are what I use

get them here if this is XP http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_174.74.html

and MAKE SURE the selection "ENHANCE INGAME AA SETTING" is NOT selected in Nhancer and FSX AA is UNCHECKED in the settings

Hey Nick - nice to meet you.

why do I need to bother with "profile" settings...I just flick on global after FSX is booted up and adjust the nHancer settings - they appear - I say appear - to switch over....but Combined 4xS doesn't seem to work.

Strange really - with the 2.3.2 and the 169 drivers, I could use 4xS, 8xS and 32xS but 16xS wouldn't work.... ????

Do i need to setup profiles etc properly ?  Is it this that is preventing 4xS Combined working even though it is "checked" on the tray icon popup ?

Thnx again Nick.

PS... in a word...for FSX with SP2 at a 16x10 resolution and a Q6600 at 3.4..............Geforce 260 or 9800 X2 card ?

That is your problem

Nvidia drivers include a PROFILE for FSX and it is OVERRIDING the global system

My instructions are quite clear... BOTH profile and global MUST BE set the same or you will not have correct control in FSX with Nvidia

8800GTX or 9800GTX

MSFS is better on those cards.. the older 768MB 8800GTX/ULTRA are better than the newer cards in FSX. For other games the newer cards are better so its your choice

Hi Nick,

Now working perfectly - simply matched settings in profile and global - spot on.

Strange that the 200series fall behind the 8 and 9 series cards.....just seen Tom's latest tests......and that the Ati cards fall even further behind !

I'm sure that there is something wrong with the drivers for the 200-series cards...hopefully this will be sorted out at some point. Unles of course its the newer chips.....FSX heh....who knows ! ?
