Motherboard-supported vs. present USB hubs.

I'm a little confused here.

I got two USB hubs on my laptop. I have a 4-port hub I plug into one of them.

When I plug my iPod or iPhone into the hub, it says it hasn't got enough power for it. It wants me to plug the 4-port in the socket for power, but there's none around. Does anyone know if it's possibly to route power to only 3 of the 4, or if possible, increase power to the hub, without using the power cord?

But my first reason for this topic, is that when I plug the iPod or iPhone in, a menu pops up with available USB ports. It shows the two I got, one with my Mighty Mouse, and one with the 4-port hub.

But it also shows two more, although I only got two.

I'm pretty sure my motherboard supports 4 hubs, is that the reason?

Cheers  :)

Completely forgot about this topic...

That's not my problem, but thanks for the effort ;)
