for my new rig that i'm going to be building soon i was thinking of either doing the 4870 X2 or 2 4870s in crossfire. i have seen in various games that the crossfire is better to have but by a small margin (5-8FPS)
i was just wondering which would be better for FSX because of the whole no support for dual cards and all but will FSX use the second GPU on the X2?

You'll be wasting your money, FSX doesn't support SLI etc..
Better off with a Good single card for FSX

ok but the X2 is a "single" card but it has 2 cores. will FSX use both or just the one?

FSX doesn't or can't use two videocards? Looks like I'm screwed...

and the PC isn't going to be just FS. its going to have a bunch of games that I've looked at but didn't get due to the system requirements :-[ Like Crysis, COD4, grid, and a couple of others

Most of todays games will take advantage of dual cards, but FSX will not, unless using Very high Monitor resolutions, probably higher than most people's monitors go up to.

ok so we have established that FSX doesn't use dual card setups.
what if the single card has 2 cores? will FSX use the second core is what I'm getting at.

Well, you won't need either of those for a good COD4 comp, I'm running it at my max resolution (x1050) with max settings and I'm getting a healthy 60 FPS with my 9800 GTX+, which is between the 4850 and 4870

FSX should use the second core of a single card, just doesnt utilise SLI, crossfire etc.
