My Current Rig

I built this in January and this is what it consists of right now.

Antek gamming case

Q6600 core 2 quad at 2.4

4 gigs DDR2 OCZ mem

iNvidea GeForce 8800 GTS SSC edition with onboard 640 DDR 3

200 GB onboard HD

500 GB external

Chimei 22" monitor

I am fixing to order today another 4 gigs of the same OCZ memory and another 8800 GTS SSC with 640 DDR3

I have the ASUS P5N32-E SLI I have a 750 PSU so i think this is going to be pretty sweet.

Ok, the real question. My Q6600 is overclockable but I have heard you don't want to that with the stock fan that comes with the cpu. At one point or another I heard the Zelman fans were what i needed to OC. Is this true or is there a better fan out there?

It's an LGA775 socket and i am using newegg for my purchase (everything above except case was through them).

Any suggestions on a cpu fan for my rig would be great. A link as well would help out too. Would like to wrap up my order today so I can get this stuff hopefully by weeks end to finally complete my monster build. I am also hoping that this set up when complete will aid in improving my FSX experience a bit. Thanks fellow geeks! ;D.

I use this Zalman. It keeps my q6600 @ 3.2 Ghz at 45C under load. There are some better heatsinks out there so I would wait for more replies.

Thanks. I'll wait a bit more today before I get this one. I had already set it up for purchase but then backed off to see if this was the one to get or if there was something better out there.

This fan is flawless, I use it and it doesn't bust a sweat.

One thing to pay attention to is the number of pins that your motherboard supplies for fan power. There are 2 models of Zalman 9700s
CNPS 9700 NT - 4 Pin
CNPS9700 LED - 3 Pin
;)

Went with the Zalman LED 3 Pin. should be alright. Thanks for all the input.

Hopefully by tuesday wedensday at the latest this will be my new specs..

ASUS P5NE2-E SLI

Q6600 @2.4 Core 2 Quad (Will OC)

8 Gigs of OCZ gold edition DDR2 mem

2 - Geforce 8800 GTS SSC Editions with 640 DDR3 onboard Each in SLI mode

This ought to bring my fps in FSX from 10-15 (pending on altitude) to a whooping 13-16 fps eh boys!?!?! ;D ;D ;D :D :P. Thanks again for all the input!

Was just thinking.... to anyone who might know...

Would it be ok to place a 3-pin fan power connector on a 4-pin slot leaving the extra pin unused? Would it even fit well? Would the fan still work without presenting any problems?

Ya. Vista Home Premium @ 64 bit. It's running on (recognizes) the 4 gigs I have on there now. Look like I'll get my stuff tomorrow! :)

I have almost the same system and I am using the OCZ Vendetta 2 cooler. It's huge and it keeps it cool!

Thanks, but please explain what you mean by having the missing pin at the top. Don't the pins lie in a horizontal line on the board?
Has anyone tried connecting a 3-pin fan onto a 4-pin slot?

My fans are 3 pins on a 4 pin slot and they run with no problems, the part on the motherboard should only allow you to use the correct 3 pins.
