A fast upgrade from what?

If the specs you quote at the bottom of your thread is the upgrade you may want to consider something else.  At least 2GB of RAM and possibly another step up on the 6600GT.  7900GT's 256 and 512mb are going for around

The computer you have listed as the in your first post would be a very good all around computer. The technology was the hottest on the market last fall, and would suit you well for another year or two depending on what you wanted from it.  It would absolutly kick FS9 rear end, and would be a decent FSX machine. If you are seriously considering an upgrade, that package would be good. You could probably build a slightly better one yourself for the same price, though.

Comcidering solely fs9, what would be the best parts that I would need to build the ultimate PC?

Surely my present Mobo would be outdated to accept the latest processors, Grfx cards & Ram sticks.

As far as the softuare are concerned I get the impression that Vista &/or Fl.Sim.X are troublesome and would do better to stick with my XP & fs9 for the moment.

I only play FSX so I'm not really going to comment on what will run FS9 maxed out, just because I don't know.

I'll chime in about the Vista/XP thing. A lot of people complain about vista because it is different from what they are used to.  It isn't a bad operating system if you have a machine that is running up to date hardware. Most people have problems when they try to run vista on the absolute minimum that the vista box calls for.  Also, I've been running vista since it came out in 2006 and I will say that there was an adjustment period. Things were different and it was frustrating for a while. But, after you get through that and get used to it, going back to XP feels like you are going back to the stone age of PC operating systems. Another thing, you only ever hear about peoples problems with Vista. The people that have no problems often don't say anything, and the people that do have problems like to try to get help on forums and message boards. Consequently, people only hear the negative and assume that the OS is broken because no one is saying anything positive. It is just another way to look at it. The decision on Vista/XP is ultimately up to you. Vista is a much more secure and safe OS than XP will probably ever be. XP is going on 7 years old and has been optimized to perform at its best.  Vista is getting better all the time but it hasn't had as much time to be tweaked on like XP.  I also would like to point out that many people hated XP when it first came out. A lot of their complaints were very similar to peoples complaints about Vista.

Thanx Mark...., reasonable comments.

Apart from hardware, does fsX have preference to Vista or works same in XP?

I wonder what is best with hardware, mobo upwards, for fsX
