NEED HELP WITH CRITICAL FS SYSTEM UPGRADE!!!!!!!!!

Postby ShaneG_old » Wed Aug 06, 2008 8:32 am

[edit]This was my first post here![/edit]

Hello all! I built my current system to play FS9 maxxed out with no problems locked at 60fps! (ALL SLIDERS MAXED) I had no intentions of buying FSX b/c I was satisfied that after 3 years of tweaking and upgrading, I had achieved FS9 bliss!
But a friend recently got me FSX and ACCEL pack for my birthday and now the tweaker in me has awoken once again.
I am using an ATI graphics card that is crossfire ready, I am considering purchasing it's twin to enable the CF function, but

Upgrading the Vcard will help but you are CPU bound in FSX

FSX needs a more modern Intel processor, the faster the better

AMD is not FSX friendly

WOW! That's the first I ever heard about AMD not being FSX friendly!
I was sold on the AMD b/c of it's "gaming" performance, I suppose that means a new motherboard, or is it compatible with an intel?
I've read and trusted most of the advice and comments that you leave here, any advice on the other two questions, or should I stop now considering the CPU ordeal?
THANX AGAIN!  :-/

In my opinion that computer with a new videocard, is pretty decent.... I'd wait till early next year and buy a whole new one. But if you want to upgrade now then aim at both a new processor & new videocard. Intel processors WILL require a new motherboard, and newer Intels are much better than AMD (In the past the opposite was true).

basically Intel pulled way ahead when they started their core 2 processor line. They AMD just hasn't come up with anything to match performance wise, so they are selling to the budget conscious PC consumer.  Right now Intel is definitely the king of performance in the CPU market.
