XP SP3 slow Startup

Postby rikm12345 » Thu Jul 17, 2008 4:33 pm

Hi,

Have recently downloaded XP SP3 from microsoft & im now having really, really slow startup times, also cannot connect to the internet through wireless connection!?

I have recently applied all the XP tweaks from http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2 ... 1208959973 which were working great.  Is SP3 supposed to be or best to be installed on top of a fresh copy of XP.

If all else fails i'll just uninstall SP3 & stick to SP2 which works fine.

Thanks

I just did this last week on a 6 month old install of XPpro and then did the tweaks yesterday, I also have wireless internet, but have not experienced this problem. Not really sure what SP3 did other than hold up my time on FSX. :-/

I tried uninstalling SP3, and ended up having to reinstall all my drivers and a few programs I had. MAJOR pain in the....you know, for me anyway.

I didn't notice any real slow downs, but I did start having problems with some web pages the were running flashplayer scripts after I installed it, so I went back to the standard SP2.

Thanks for the replies,

I ended up having to do a full reinstall for other reasons anyway. I had another go at installing SP3 on top of a clean install. It worked well. Like you say, no real improvements, apart from fixes.

I think my XP had been tweaked too much previously.

Anyroads, SP3 was not what i thought it would be.

Cheers

I have it, too. I don't think it's all that much better than SP2. Does anybody know what all SP3 is supposed to do over SP2? My real wish is that the The Boys in Redmond keep the CD versions of XP Home and Pro in both 32-bit and 64-bit available for purchase until Vista is but a bad and distant memory...

Does anybody know if there will be a better Windows OS coming down the pike that will put Vista out to pasture before we all have to start using it? I've never used Vista and have no desire to start...
