Which processor will give me better performance?

Postby The-Black-Sheep » Sun Aug 03, 2008 4:36 am

Looking at getting myself a new PC, as I'm being more drawn to the wonders of FSX now.

I have a choice between 2 PC's.

One has a dual core running at 3Ghz, the other has a quad core running at 2.4Ghz.

So, which one should I go for??

Help is most certainly welcome  :)

Had a feeling I might get that answer.  ;D

Just wasn't sure about the whole quad/dual core thing. Only know basic things about hardware, nothing too technical  ;D

Cheers Waspi  :)

In my Opinion any dual core or double threading (P4) with 3Ghz its more than enough ..

Today is all about RAM size and speed & Video Cards ,Unless you were going to work in CGA for movies animations Shreck, Star wars etc..

there was a time when the most importan was the size of the HDD then ,was the size of the Dimm PC100 ,then was the procesor ,then the RAM came back , Computer word changes a lot..

Is just what I think I can be wrong

Consult the resident gurus regarding which chip for FSX. It seems there's a compatibility problem with FSX and four-core chips. I'm asking the same question in this same forum.

Yeh, I did a quick scan around after I posted the thread and looked at the four core issue.

Just wanna get myself up to speed and get FSX. Feeling a bit left behind now with FS9  ;D

You should go for a Quad core, all four cores will be utilized by FSX with Sp1 or SP2. With a Q6600 it will easily overclock to 3ghz.

I recommend a Q9450 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprodu ... 20(1333FSB)%20Processor%20-%20Retail

or hold off till the end of the year when the Nehalem chips come out, fsx should run near max with them, but will probably require a new motherboard & ddr3 ram to run them.
