So I finally replaced 2 of the final pieces of hardware original to my hewlitt packard pc. Replaced the mother board and the processor.

New Specs are:
EVGA 750i sli ftw
intel e8400 w/ hr-01+ @3.6Ghz
EVGA 8800gt stock
2GB Patriot CL5 DDR2-800Mhz PC2-6400
Antec Truepower Trio 650W PSU
Seagate 250GB hard drive
XP32
all in a CM690

I couldn't be happier at the moment. no issues whatsoever, overclocking the e8400 was a cake walk (this coming from someone who has never overclocked a processor before). Everything went together almost perfectly. Only issues i have now are some very noisy fans which i'll have to deal with soon.

I'm sure the noise will piss off someone in the household enough that they'll get me a fan controller  ::) as i've used up the last of me grad gifts.

As a matter of interest the rig, out of the box, stock clocks scored 11,637 in 3dmark06 and after overclocking the cpu scored 12,258 (keeping in mind thats the basic version)

Umm, if you wanted a unique processor I could trade you a Pentium 3 for that motherboard...  ;D

Seriously, nice specs.

haha, does seem like everyone is running them, but it does do the job and well.

Out of curiosity, when I look in CPU-Z the multiplier sits at 6x usually, and then goes back up to 9x when the computer is doing something. I'm assuming thats the power-saving feature. I thought I had turned that off. Is that the case? and if so could anyone tell me which feature it is that will make it stay at 9x?
