Basically I am in dire need of a computer just to esentially browse the web with a bit, maybe do a few word documents and talk to friends on MSN with.
I cant really use this one as it is inbetween all the bedrooms in my house and sometimes keeps people up.
Do you know where I could get an extremely cheap computer? I have spare monitors... maybe an OS though I could use linux if required.
Or, if anyone has one on offer....
Cheers

To bad you don't live on this side of the pond, I've got tons of stuff I could sell/give you.
Since you don't however, Gumtree, or Ebay might be your best bets. If you're not to proud, you could even do what I've done (no shame in my game

Well I did get my hands on one half broken computer at the recycling centre, but it needs to be repaired quite a bit. It is a possibility if it will ever start up- but I am always looking out for a good deal.
On GumTree there are a few fairly decent looking systems at around the

Do you have any computer fairs near you machineman?
My local one always has base units for the price you're looking at. Usually old business/educational ones.. P4 1.8 - 2.4, 256 RAM, 20 Gig HDs are a rough indication of specs.
And the vendors are always up for a bit of bartering ;)

None that I know of... but in the thread down from this about running Linux, I have pretty much sorted my recycled computer- just need something to run on it.

These days I think you'll be looking to drop at least 250 quid if you're looking for a new laptop...

If I had it my way I would get one of those laptops with SLI or something capable of running Crysis on full :P
But no, I think that the renovated desktop I have semi-working in my bedroom now should be sufficient, just need to get it to run an OS.

Do schools and Hospitals cycle out computers over there? I've found that is a very cheap place to get used computers. Sometimes they give them away. I've also aquired some nice ones from eBay.
