I do not have an answer to your question, I just have another question.
Since we are talking about external USB drives would an external USB drive work to install FSX on or to get the benefits would you need to install FSX on a separate internal HD? I have been thinking about getting another HD for FSX and all of my addons since my current HD is a little over half full. Some place NickN said that for optimum performance your HD should not be more than half full. Something to do with read/write access times and all of that.
