8.5 fixed my flashing screen problem that 8.3 and 8.4 had. Was happy to upgrade from 8.2

I like 8.5 too, much much better then 8.4, especially the spike in FSX performance, far less stuttering now

Sounds like they finally addressed a few things they were suppose to do back in Feb

No matter what, the TMU's on the 3780 cards can never be increased (16 compared to 34-64 with Nv) but at least now they have the core/clock availability across the AA scaler where before it was hindered.

The 770 is suppose to revert AA back to true hardware instead of the partial software render it does now, increase the shaders to 420 and increase TMU's to 32

But my money is on October with the entire 'enchilada' of Nellie and the graphics cards

For those who were successful in upgrading to version 8.5, would you mind showing a step by step process for updating the video card to the new version.

The Release notes for 8.5 IMO don't cover the whole process.

When I had 8.3, I tried upgrading to 8.4, but got an error message that it couldn't find the right driver. How I got back to 8.3 was this:

ATI:
1. Unplug nic card or modem from net or disconnect
2. Remove ATI driver from add/remove programs then remove the control panel from add/remove programs
3. Reboot into safe mode (F8 during boot up)
4. On reboot into safe mode WinXP SP1/SP2 will auto detect and install drivers. Just let it do its thing. If you can cancel out of the auto install hardware wizard then skip the rest and run Driver Cleaner! If you can NOT cancel out of auto detect wizard then...
5. Navigate to device manager->display adapter->uninstall and/or remove ATI display adapter but do not reboot
6. Disable any AntiVirus Software (If you don\'t disable is than it could give trouble)
7. Run Cab Cleaner (not needed, but recommended)
8. Run Driver Cleaner
9. Empty recycle bin and reboot
10. Install the new drivers and control panel

This worked when getting back to 8.3.

However, when I followed these steps to upgrade to 8.5, I got an error saying it couldn't find the right driver (something along those lines).

Going back to 8.3 doesn't work either. So I'm stuck.

I deleted the old drivers from the add/remove programs.

Let the computer reboot and load the generic drivers.

Clicked on my Cat 8.5 download and let the new drivers install.

Rebooted and went on my merry way.
