OK so Im debating on getting either the 780i or 790i mobo. ones DDR2 and ones DDR3. Now Ive heard ddr3 is just .1% diff. But Im looking at hardware that will last me for a while in the gaming industry. Ive also heard that it is difficult to put an 8800gt into the PCI-e slot because of the south bridge, on the 780i. But any info is helpful.

Yea, well DDR3 and .1% is if you are not willing to spend the money or know what you are doing.. I have been on DDR3 since last March and I would not run anything else but I am also willing to spend the money on the right parts and know how to set it up

I will smoke the pants off any DDR2 system you can present, including extreme cooling

Intel Nellie will be released at the end of this year and you must have DDR3 memory if you intend to move to that platform.. there is no motherboard on the market that will allow you to use a N processor so if you wish to upgrade you will be buying DDR3 sooner or later

As for your question

As far as I am concerned you are better off on P35 x38 or x48 DDR2/DDR3 than Nvida but thats just my opinion

Glad you brought up the X38 and 48 Boards Nick, Yes been awhile since i posted here, But, i just spent a month trying to talk a customer into a DDR3 board, I suggested the 48 but he went with the 38 instead.
I set the rig up with a C2D 6850 clocked at 3.6 with Gskill DDR2, PC8500 4-4-4-12-2T couldn't get her to post at 1T no matter how I tweaked it :)

The Sysytem was based on all your suggestions with HD's  1-OS 2- FS9 3- FSX , Got to say that sure is a sweet deal running like that, Hes got a 8800GT 1Gb EVGA card on the PCIE 2x slot and it puts to shame my 8800GTX 768 card on a Q6700 and 4Gigs pc8500 same clocks only I am at 3.4 on the CPU.

Any hoot, enough of my rambling. I was wondering, I know the new market cards will be coming out Q3 I believe, and I want to go DDR3.

I am assuming that the Intel platform is once again going to change this year. so the x48 is out, Can you throw me a bone on what I am looking for later this year?
