Take the plunge for TrackIR?

Postby raptorx » Sat May 03, 2008 4:30 pm

I'm sick of panning around with the hat switch to look around.  Sould I just get the damn thing?  I'm running XP x64 w/SP2, any issues with that?

For about a tenth of the price you could use FreeTrack. All that involves is buying a webcam (or perhaps use a current one you may have) and then wire up some Infrared LEDs. The software is free, just takes making it.

It is a cheap solution which apparently works really well. Check their website if you need more construction or general info.

If you dont want to go down that route, then I think TrackIR would definately be a good investement if hat-switching is annoying you- I know it is for me and I am trying to get my FreeTrack headset to work.

That sounds very interesting.  I have some simple experience wiring LEDs for lighting models.  I might look into that.
