I Really Screwed Up!

Do I need a new motherboard?
I tried updating my BIOS via ASUS update. There was an error in the update and the update failed. I put the motherboard disc in the drive to try to revert back to the original BIOS. The computer attempted to restart, but won't boot. It turns on for a few seconds then turns off for a few seconds and continues to to turn on and off in that fashion, without booting.

I saw 'I screwed up' and thought "Oh, I do that all the time. I should read this."

I really did.

Remove the CMOS battery ( the thin wafer looking one on the mobo) for a couple minutes, then put it back and give it a shot.

Hmmm, this may sound dumb, but you did have the powersupply off when you took it out correct?

Yes.
If my BIOS somehow got completely wiped out, would the computer turn on and off continously like it is? Wouldn't I just get a blank screen?

Asus has an emergency recovery proceedure... get into the manual and read about it
Sometimes you have to clear the CMOS with the jumper and YES make sure the tower is UNPLUGGED from the wall when you reset CMOS and pull the battery
That Asus update tool is responsible for more BIOS chip burns than any other reason
ALWAYS flash a BIOS in DOS using the motherboard DOS BIOS (ALT-F2) update utility and a floppy. Newer boards allow a USB stick and a floppy for the file read.
If the process does not work, your board needs to go to service for a BIOS chip replacement and thank Asus and that stupid tool for it.

So much for following the update instructions in the motherboard manual.
