I've had enough trouble from this little ****er to last me a lifetime. Every single little problem you've seen me post about in the past month is all due to this:

I bought a ****ing faulty motherboard. >:( >:( >:(

Let this be a lesson to all who venture into this here forum:

NEVER EVER BUY A USED MOTHERBOARD.

On the plus side, at least I recieved a good deal of experience in analyzing and treating (or proposing treatment) to computer faults, but it still pisses me off that I need to scuff out another $300+ for a new (and i mean new) CPU.

If it's your motherboard, why do you need a new CPU? D id it fry it or something?

If it makes you feel any better my 7 year old rig is finally dying. Keeps crashing all the time, I can't play DVDs or video clips on it, can't play FS etc etc. Memory is burnt out, replaced it, fried the new lot. Hellish!
However on Wednesday my friend is giving me a nice year old rig with printer, modem, ancillaries etc for free 8-) What a great mate 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

The motherboard contains the microprocessor, and it would be rather foolish to try and remove the CPU from it, right?

The CPU isn't hard wired to the motherboard, just release the lever/retaining frame (dependent on type) and it should just lift out. There's a good chance it's ok. I'd get your new mobo first, it can't do any harm trying the CPU and it may save you a few bob.  ;)

I just binned a recent board becuase the voltage converters sucked...  50% chance of working USB and 'walking wave' stability due to bad memory clock (means a few months of no-problems-at-all follwed by the same period of continuous crashes at bootup)...

anyway that one is gone now... and the old always overheating 1800xp too

The processor is just a small, square object that you more or less place into a socket on the motherboard.....

They are seperate parts, if your motherboard is fried, then the CPU should be fine. Detailed instructions should come with your products.

So I stand thouroughly corrected...
