Hey guys.... as some as you know - or don't know. My old computer blew up.... motherboard and / or CPU fried. Don't know don't care which one it is, I am going to upgrade both then sell it.

Specs:

The memory is 4x512 DDR2-533 4-4-4-12, Micron tech (Basically, really OLD Crucial Value Select). Dual Channel.
Videocard is an ATi X850XTPE.
Harddisk is 160gb Western Digital 8mb cache SATA.
Power supply is Thermaltake 430 watt... don't know exact specs.
Sound Blaster Live! 24bit
The CPU cooler is passive... if that makes any diferance? :P

Basically I want to drop a cheap-o Gigabyte GA-965x-xxx, and perhaps an Intel Pentium E2200 Allendale 2.2GHz, and some cheap-o case into it. Maybe mess with BIOS settings / cooling, so I can get used to it all before I decide to mess with my Q6600.

mu-atx is the smallest mobo size... if youre lucky you get one PCI and one video slot on those. Often only 2 banks of memory

EDIT: And I have Windows that was included with my old Dell.... the one that's fried. Is it OK to install the OEM Dell version of Windows on it... or is it illegal? I could just say the mobo and CPU got fried so we replaced PSU, mobo, CPU...?

Might work... or might not work. On recent machines the install is linked to BIOS ID
