Well, I'm stuck and looking for advice.

There is no reason why your current system should not run FSX well. If you are having the problems you are describing, you have a serious problem, and splashing out on a new processor isn't going to solve them.

Read Nicks guide to setting up your system for FSX, that should help.

I agree.  I purchased the custom built system and all I installed was AVG, Spybot S&D, NoAdware and O&O 10.  I only use the system for FSX w/Aceleration, I don't surf the net with it.  The only add-on FSX programs I have are FEX and GEX, and a few aircraft.  But the system has always performed poorly, since day one.

I followed the installation step by step, driver update and nHancer tweaks, step by step.  So the only solution I can think of is a faster processor.

That's your problem. Running in DX10 mode as well? Try Windows XP on another HD and see if you get performance increase.

I love my Q6600.  Maybe yours needs a higher overclock?

I turned DX10 preview off.

I can't see how your rig isn't performing well. You can see in my sig. that my specs are pretty similar to yours (except for the Gfx card) and my rig performs really well (FSX runs smooth between 20-30 fps most of the time). I think you need to tweak your FSX a little more to get it running better.

That seems like the general consensus.

You really need to try XP 32 , to determine it's not Vista 64 (which I rate as inferior for gaming)

Get a spare HD install XP onto that, not sure if you can run FS.EXE without having to install it...some games you can.

2. Turn off User Account Control

3. Turne off the Defender service.

4. Disabled Aero (saves CPU's to do so)

5. Totally re-permissioned Program Files. There is no folder virtualization active so the folder acts as it has previously in XP.

6. Disable the Indexing service

Hi Nick,

I have disabled Aero, Windows Defender, Indexing, Superfetch and AVG.

What are your autogen settings?  I've heard that even the new hardware on the market can be crippled if Autogen is set too high.  If it is all the way up try bumping it down one notch.
