OK guys

Got one PC here that has a habit of killing any WD Raptor that you put in it in about 3-4 months.
Other drive types just keep working whitout any problems (Current WD Caviar and a SATA Maxtor Diamondmax that i had in it before the WD Caviar)

System specs
A8N-SLI with latest BIOS updates
AMD Athlon64 4200+ (thats a dualcore)
1x nvidia GF 6800GT
2GB ram (2x1GB)
SB Live 1024
1x SATA WD Caviar 500GB/16MB Cache (same age as the WD raptor that died)
1x SATA WD Raptor 74GB (this one is dead now)
550W PSU

Previously this machine had a 36GB WD Raptor that also died in a very short time.

Now the mystery.... that 36GB WD raptor (that i had before the 74GB one) has been working on the same motherboard with a different CPU and PSU for about a year (was the main HD of my old gaming machine) whitout any problems. Even a Maxtor that was said to be problematic just worked 100% OK

Anyone got a clue what the problem could be?

I'd strip down the PSU and look for shorts... sounds like something is not working correctly.

Hi,I also have an A8N but not the sli.I think your problem is your bios update. I done my bios update and the MB didn't recognize my second HD and RAM memory.Don't ask me  why, but the truth is, I reversed the bios to my previous one and its fine. By the way why did you upgraded your bios?Did you really need it, or the problem was there already before you upgraded?

Ivan I know this is probably a REALLY silly question but have you checked the connection of wires into blocks?
Just even if one is slightly out it could short things.
