Upgrade Video Card?

I have an EVGA GeForce 7950GT.0 video card. Would it make any significant difference in performance if I upgrade to 8600GT? Also with the reasonable price of RAMs, would it make any difference if I increase from 1.5G to 2.0G?

better yet, an ATI 3750.  I have the 8800 GTS 640MB, I'm disappointed with it.  Basically I upgraded from a 7800 GTX, and didn't see much, if any FPS increase in any of the games I run, and only a very few games saw a graphic quality increase.

I haven't compared the 2 using FSX as I only recently got FSX and had already stopped swapping the cards out to verify I'm not crazy about how little difference the 8800 has made.

I have an Alienware machine that's only 2 1/2 years old, has the proper PCIe x16 slot, and does alright on most things.

I don't think you will see much of an increase in fps.

(From what I have HEARD) the main difference would be DX9 and DX10...but even then.
I go with the guy that said the HD3870...

newegg.com currently has an 8800GT for $239.99.

For the guy that said his 8800GTS 640 wasn't that much of an upgrade, you must remember that that was the old G80 series.  The new GTS (512MB Ram) has the new G92 chip and is much faster.  It effectivly matches the performance of the GTX at a price of around $310 - $340 depending on the particular model.

Ati is behind Nvidia, simple as that. That said, go for an 8800gt, you wont be disappointed ;)

(I have 2 in SLI)

that card is the ONLY card that is better than nVidia's cards.  It also costs nearly twice as much as the 8800GT.  In a month or so nVidia will release their new 9 series cards. I can guarantee their top of the line card will be slightly better than the best that ATI has, priced at about the same level.

The HD3850 is priced around the 8600 but has performance almost up to the 8800. Yes the 9000 series will be better, more expensive and a whole new list of problems will show up. ;D

Problem is, that card is only slightly better than a gtx or ultra in benchmarks. So congrats ATI, you've finally matched Nividia's aging flagship :P
