Setting up a Headset

I purchased an Audio FX Force Feedback headset and I'm having problems.  I tried plugging the speaker and mic connection into my on board sound card, but nothing.  Then I tried plugging the speaker and mic into my 2nd sound card, I get speaker but no mic.  I went into the sound section of my device manager and I don't think my on board sound card is being recognized, only my 2nd sound card.  Does anyone know how to enable the on board sound card and is there a tutorial for this headset?  You'd think there would be installation instructions for dummies like myself.

By the way, my computer is custom.  Vista is the OS.

Have you set the on-board to half-duplex? Just that is normally the problem ;)

Ozzy72,
The computer isn't recognizing my on board sound card.  I went into my device manager, under sound there are two devices, SB X-FI Xtreme Audio and Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device (is this my on board card?).  When I plug the headset into the on board card, I'm not getting any audio or mic.

Did you go into BIOS and disable your on-board sound?

No, when I ordered the computer, I asked for a sound card.  Either they diasabled the on board sound device or it automatically shut down when the sound card was installed.

Well after reading numerous posts on various forums, I found that there were a lot of others having the same problem.  Many were reporting that Vista was the culprit and upon installing an add-on card the on board card no longer worked.  Those using Vista were still having a problem with the mic on their add-on card, even though the audio was still working.

I started looking for a new sound card that is "Vista Certified" and I found this, that acually utilizes my PCI-E 1X slot:

Anyone use this card with Vista 64 bit?  Any mic or audio problems?  The customer reviews sound promising.  I wish I could afford the new Asus Xonar D2X:

Vista certified doesn't mean jack, its a joker term more or less, Why do you want to use your onboard sound with an addon sound card anyways? Doesnt that just kill the entire point of getting a real soundcard?

Edit: Try going into the control panel, Sound, recording, properties, levels, then make sure the volume is 100% and unmuted on the blue speaker thing, also try mic boost as well, and check the headset for a volume control, they sometimes come with a mute button on them, just a thought!

I know that... that's why I said the customer reviews sound promising.
