Hi guys,

Just finished my build but there is a problem. The computer appears to fire up and lights come on and the cd drive spins, but nothing is shown on the monitor. It just stays blank in its "standby" mode.

Here are the specs:

Intel Q6600 Quad Core Processor
2GB Corsair 800MHZ Memory
MSI S775 nFORCE 650i 8ch Audio Motherboard (SLI Enabled)
XFX Geforce 8600GTS 512MB Graphics card
320GB Samsung Hard Drive
Linksys PCI Wireless card
20X Litescribe DVD drive
Thermaltake Soprano case
Thermaltake 750W PSU

Thanks everyone and look forward to replies

Does this card support 2 monitors?? XFX Geforce 8600GTS
If so try plugging into the other monitor port as it sounds like you dont have your graphics card set right.
How many power connectors does the card have?? If 2 use them both.

Try removing and reseating your memory.

Tried both  monitor ports and the graphics card is plugged in both directly from the PSU (to the connector in the back of the graphics card) and it also gets power from the motherboard itself via a molex plyug on the mobo which is also plugged.

Tried reseating memory but to no avail.

Your best bet is to go to the forums at MSI and find the forum that deals with your motherboard and post this

If you are sure all the connections are correct and have done the basic checks and you are sure the monitor is set to read the proper input then there are several possibilities including the motherboard not having the processor microcode and needs a BIOS flash update to run the processor, the CMOS needs to be cleared by the jumper and reset, the memory product may be defective.. try running one stick instead of 2 and MAKE SURE it is in the correct slot, there may be default memory timing issues the sticks wont run at,.. the video card may be defective the motherboad may be defective.. and even a PSU with a bad CPU power plug could be a problem... if the motherboard has a 4-8 pin CPU power plug (it better with a quad core or it wont power the CPU properly) make sure it is plugged in, etc

Typically if you have done all the basics then it is best to go to MSI forums and post the issue since most initial boot problems are usually specific to the motherboard model and will be known.

Cheers Nick.

I have opened a topic on the MSI forums.

Unfortunately I can't text the GFX card elsewhere as no other computers in the house have a PCIE slot! They are all laptops except the desktop downstairs but that is rather old.
