NVIDIA 8800GTX Profiles/Drivers

This is really a question for Nick, hopefully he will read this.
I have a 8800GTX and 169.13 drivers. As you know from another thread my FPS is 20 - 30 and I am using an Athlon 64x2 4200. I have read threads that NVIDIA does something that messes up the way FSX runs and that you should delete their profiles with something called Nhancer, or whatever. I have read other threads that with the new drivers Nhancer, or whatever it was called, does not work anymore. I read a thread this morning that stated someone had installed 169.25 drivers and he thought that these were great and that FSX for him anyway was running faster.
You had such a detailed set of instructions in tweaking Windows XP that I thought I would ask if there is anything that I can do to improve my 8800GTX.
Regards,
Rod

2 posts starting here:
http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2 ... 53/165#171use the 169.13 beta drivers for XP right now:
http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1795Video card overclocking is a different animal all together and unless you know how to set up monitoring software and verify GPU temps to ensure safe operation, I would not be messing with that
However most GTX cards can do 630MHz core, 2000Mhz memory (1000x2) but you have to know what you are doing before setting something like that. Some cards run hotter than others and you have to know when to stop. My card never exceeds 68c but I use a special cooler on it. Do not exceed 83-85c for any long period of time. Normal is between 70-80c

Nick,
Question, the link for the drivers was for drivers at guru3d, is there any difference in these drivers and the drivers at nvidia? Also the link was for Vista drivers and I am using XP, do I still need to stay with 169.13 or should I use a different one for XP?
Thanks!
Rod

hi, what are the proper RULES for changing video drivers, aside from deleting the old one first?

1: Uninstall old driver.
2: Boot into SAFE MODE
3: Install new driver
4: Boot into normal mode.
5: Defrag
6: Reboot again
7: Yay new drivers.
Cheers

Nick,
I followed the video card tweaks on the list, did a driver sweep, configured my 8800GTX with Nhancer, did everything as instructed. The only problem is when I fly at night the colors are now all wrong, everthing has a green tint on the ground and the clouds have a green border, a white center and a blue ring between the green border and white center. Day time flying all the colors are perfect. I am using a HP f2105 LCD display and I followed all instructions in your video card tweak to the letter. Any ideas as what I need to do to get my night sky and ground colors back? I am using FEX and UTX plus MegaSceneryX in some places (So Cal, Dallas, Phoenix). Just so there is no misunderstanding, my night colors were fine before I did the video card tweaks.

Rod

Nick,
I did have AA uncheck and flitering set to trillinear in FSX. I changed both profile and global from supersample 8xS to multisamping 4x and that did not work. I downloaded drivers 128.28 and the problem is the same as with 128.13. I did not try 128.21 and since the problem remains with 128.28 I assume that 128.21 would be no different. I also ran FSX after installing the new drivers before I changed anything with Nhancer and the problem remained the same so it would seem that the Nhancer settings are not the cause. I am pretty sure that when I first installed 128.13 that the clouds and ground were normal. I did reinstall the 169.13 drivers when I went through the tread and did the Driver Sweep and installed Nhancer. One thing that I noticed was that the drivers from Guru3D was a larger file than the drivers at Nvidia, I am talking two or three megs and the 169.13 drivers from Nvidia were the first that I used when I think the sky was okay at night. I can not find thoser drivers on Nvidia anymore, they either do not list old drivers or I just can not find them. I do know for a fact the drivers 169.09 worked and I can not find those on Nvidia either. Can you tell me how to get those?
Regarding my motherboard, Manufacture: MSI, Model: AMETHYST-M 1.0, Chipset: ATI Xpress 200(RS480), Southbridge: ATI SB400, LPCIO: SMSC LPC47M192, BIOS Brand: Phoenix Tech, Version 3.48, Date: 03/24/06, Graphic Interface: Link Width: x16 Max Supported x16.

Nick,
By accident I found the problem, with uninstalling and reinstalling video drives, etc. the settings for my display in the control panel changed. When I went in and set the resolution back to 1680 * 1050 I did not set the color back to 32 bit, I left if at 16 bit. Anyway since the problem seemed the worst with clouds I uninstalled FEX so see if it make a difference and it did not. When I went to reinstall FEX it would not let me because it said that my system would not handle the color requirement. Well after thinking about it for a while and trying to install FEX a couple of more time with no luck I remembered about the color setting in control panel/display. It still seems to me that the colors at night are not as good as they were, but that could very well be all in my mind. I did notice that at night well defined clouds look better than wispy clouds. I must be the way that they are rendered, but at night wispy clouds have a noticeable ring around them and my earlier problem with the green ring, blue ring and white center were all with wispy cloud formations.
Best regards, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Rod

You know, I almost asked if your monitor resolution was set correctly and my thought was that if you did not notice that you were not running 32bit graphics during the day, I could not believe that the resolution was not set correctly.
Usually daytime and nighttime will display really bad textures and what appear to be graphical errors if the resolution is not set to 32bit and since you did not say daytime was bad, I assumed that was set up correctly. Also, the first operation after a driver install is to set the resolution up so again, I assumed that operation was performed.
Glad you got it sorted out.
Happy Holidays
