Goodevening everyone,

I have a question. Today a friend of my sister brought her notebook to me, to check what could be wrong with it. Certain programs or files will not run or open. I noticed when I tried to open an e-mail message that it gives a error message saying there is not enough memory to open the message.

So I tried to find out how much RAM is inside this notebook. And this is what made me wonder. I went to control panel - system. It states the following:

HP
Mobile AMD Sempron(tm) 3100+
1.79 GHz, 348 MB

This 348 MB is that enough to run Windows XP Home Edition SP2? There is a swapfile of 576 MB on the harddrive.

Is there enough fysical memory left to run and open files like big e-mail messages? I checked different programs and they run fine.

I suspect it could be a vitual cache issue. Maybe not though.

I use Windows 98SE on a machine that has 756mb physical, but something about the way 98 handles vitual memory can bring on this kind of error. Upon reading about ways to remedy this on my system, I've found a few things that may help.

(The way XP handles memory is completely different from 98, but the same techniques may work.)

How full is the hard drive? Disk cleanup may help.

Also, see if the BIOS has a setting for graphics aperture size. If so try a lower setting.
