Monthly internet useage exceeded a bit...

Postby 4_Series_Scania » Mon Dec 03, 2007 2:55 pm

I think I may have overstepped my Internet usage by a small amount.....

I had this e-mail from my provider (BT) today...

[quote]Usage Allowance
Dear Customer,

This email is to advise you that last month you exceeded the usage allowance for your BT Total Broadband Option 1 service.

Your current monthly usage allowance is 5 GB.

Your total usage for last month was 43.79 GB.

Don't worry, we're not going to take any action this month. However if you exceed the allowance next month we will raise a charge based on

I've downloaded a few games directly from the Net recently,

http://eastore.ea.com/store/eaemea/en_G ... &semid=200 - Take a look.

Quite legally I assure you, that said, no way have I downloaded nearly 44gb in 1 month!  :o

I've probably had a torrent client running on one of my other machines (which I leave on 24/7) they upload as well as download so I reckon probably, thats where it came from, I'd check the logs except that machine is in bits now.....  :-[

Deja Vou, Paul.... :o...!

I can remember you having a similar problem, years ago, resulting in BT cutting you off!.... ::)...!

Obviously, you and British Telecom are not the best of Friends......again!... :'(...!

Paul...(also with a 5Gb Monthly usage limitation)... ;)...!

...actually, it brings up a question I asked on the same subject here, a long time ago.
How does one know what their accumulated download usage is on a daily basis, so as not to exceed the Monthly usage?... ::)...!
I often wonder if my "streaming download" music, from various music radio stations, running in the background, adds to my Monthly usage?

LOL I remember that Paul - it was if I recall correctly, for exceeding my dial up time (I used to connect via a free phone dial up number, which was restricted, not that I bothered to pay heed to it!)

I'd like to know myself how I monitor my useage, I watch BBC News 24 over the web (Its often on on one of my other machines in the background, along with various BBC radio stations) I suppose it all adds up to your monthly useage.

43.79 GB though! - That can't possibly be right, can it?  ::)

If my downloads were limited for my house, we'd be over all the time. I don't download much, my sis doesn't, my mom doesn't at all but my dad... lets just say more than he should...but not more than he CAN. ;D

Actually verizon does have limits, they just don't warn you like Senica was lucky enough to. instead they black list you, and if it happens three months in a row you get your service pulled without warning. Comcast does this too.

So be careful boys and girls...just because you don't get cought downloading that torrent, or movie....your ISP can say enough is enough and pull you entirely.

And I speak from expirance from the Verizon issue. I had a FTP server running so my transfer was about 400GB down in a month (very active server as you can see) and after 3 months suddenly no internet for me. Calling Verizon let me find out if you do more than 20GB in a month you get black listed, now apparently their FIOS lines have higher limits, but no ISP no matter what they say has unlimited data UNLESS you run a T1 or T3 line, but a T3 lines monthly bill would run you more than most of your rigs cost, so the moral of the story, be careful, and rip movies from netflix instead of downloading.

Cheers

There are no download limits for Comcast. Our contract is unlimited download but yes they do reserve the right to discontinue service or block net but they don't. I have downloaded over 100 GB in a month (Legally) and nothing was said. All of the games I buy are D2D. Also I have 4 computers running off of my net. 2 Business computers and 2 personal. Our net is not lightly used to say the least.
