Which Processor?

Postby drummer_tom » Fri Nov 30, 2007 7:23 pm

The Intel Q6600 quad core, or the AMD Phenom 9700 Quad core?

Both clock at 2.4GHz.

Which is better?

Cheers

Intel E6850  ;)

It's a waste considering how easily the q6600 goes up to 3ghz. I didn't even have to change my voltages to get at 3.

I'm not an intel fanboy, but AMD still performs less than the intel chips.

Currently Intel are the better option for quad cores performance wise ;)

So how much is which one?

But I'd go for AMD for patriotic reasons..... ;)

Q6600, easily. It's faster.

Intel unless you are mating the AMD to their newer chipset. Its still to early to call the performance on those newer motherboards and AMD did have setback with CPU errata above 2.4gig on their newer slugs which is being corrected.

Right now the best way to go is Intel until AMD gets all their products out and are trimmed in.

I would not go AMD right now. Although their newer systems will probably give Intel a run for the money in grahics ability, its too soon to be buying from them.

Agreed with Nick. Looking at K11 I'm impressed at whats to come, but it was a rushed launch (you can thank intel for that) and I would believe that not even the AMD engineers are happy with whats on the shelve right now. Future K11 and the new DTX motherboards from AMD are currently on my shopping list, but those are going to be about a year from now.

I would also stay away from Intel Quad Core for now. To be honest, the improvement isn't that great over the E6850, not to mention that things like FS will not properly spread themselves over the 4 cores. If you are encoding video, go for it, if your gaming E6850 is the way to go.

The Current E6850 price on newegg.com is $275 to answer that question.

Cheers

I dont think its going to be the end of next year before the AMD gets the point across. More like Q1/Q2 of next year

As for Intel. If I already had a Core2 installed I would not bother with the Penryns offering. I would wait for Nehalem and buy a x38 (or x48 when it is released) system now. 680i is not going to support the next gen of Intel http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/ ... pset-fails
