helping a freind....

Postby GreaseMonkey » Sun Nov 25, 2007 4:22 pm

this christmas my freind is getting a new computer and it is coming with vista home premium, but he is a bit worried. he has heard vista eats at RAM like burgerking man eats burgers (his exact qoute!)
he was origionally going to get 2048DDR 800 which i have but then he wanted to know would it be better to have 4GB RAM DDR  667, i wasnt sure though i do know that vista doesnt use all 4 gb but i thought i would ask for a second opinion.
he hopes to be using fs9 with quite a lot of traffic and airport scenery and maybe a bit of traffic in fsx.

here is the rest of his sytem,
amd athlon 4600+ x2
vista premium
250gb hdd
512mb 8600gts (which i recommended as it is good and is not that expensive)
Ram???
650W
Windows 7 Ultimate
4870 1GB
4GB Ram
3.15GHz x 2

2GB of 800MHz will be preferable

I can only speak from personal experience, but I think he'll be fine with what he's got. My specs (sig) run FS9 maxed (25 fps locked) with Vista home premium and I have a lesser card and RAM.
As for FSX I don't know as I don't own it, but remember Vista 32bit only "sees" 3 Gb Ram if it's 64bit then 4 Gb is the way to go.

In which case the decision is not so straight-forward.
