Shared means it'll use some of the memory to power the display I think :-/

Shared Memory is just that it is used to display windows as well as any other displays. So the answer to your question is yes it will effect your FS2004 game. You will have to turn down the sliders to get a descent frame rate. And as a result you will miss out on alot of what FS2004 has to offer. Notebooks are not really what you would call a gaming platform due to size limitations. I would not even think about running FSX on a laptop.
FS2004 really needs a good video card to display everything it has to offer and because of there size I do not think you will find a VIDEO card for them. 8-)

For flight simulation use I would not consider ANY laptop or desktop that mentioned "shared" video memory.

Dunno about that...I run FS9 at max and get a smooth stutter free flying experience...I have an 8400M GT...Not the top of the line card :-/

i think it would run it pretty well

youve got a good processor and a good amount of RAM, and the 8400 is fairly modern

Yeah, it would, but FSX on minimum settings looks like CRAP. Trust me, I played FSX on my laptop  :P

if u can upgrade and go a tiny bit over the 1000 mark try a 256mb 8500gt there quite a lot better than the 8400 and not that exspensive.

I think it should run FS2004 pretty good, I have a dell e1505, 1.66 duo core, 1gig ram, 256mb X1400 video card, 80GB HD, it ran FS2004 close to max and was really smooth, I'm running FSX on it right now, low-med, and it runs ok until I fly over any big city.

My laptop is way crapper than that (in graphics and ram wise) and runs FSX with some things medium and some things ultra high :)
