Hope to buy new computer probably with Vista this fall and instal FSX. Any suggestions on ideal specs versus minimums mentioned by MS? And, will FS2002 PE run on Vista? It ran quite well on an earlier machine with Windows 98 but keeps crashing moments into a flight on the current PC with XP. Error messages say it's a driver problem. Any and all pointers would be appreciated. Thanks.

Some people have FS2k2 running without any problems in Vista and others can't get it to run at all. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to why some can get it working and some can't.
If you're getting a driver problem in XP it is most likely a graphics driver problem. What are your system specs?

If you are after FSX quad core is a prerequisite. Aces designed FSX for quads to be the middle ground and dual quad processors and higher to be the high end systems. Dual core no matter what the speed will always be considered medium-low for FSX use.

Sorry for dropping out of sight for a bit but earning a living has its priorities. Thanks for the replies to date and referral to the FS X section where the query probably should have gone in the first place. The current system is MS XP Prof, version 2002, AMD Athlon processor, 952 MHz, 512 MB of RAM. Graphics card seems to be a standard issue; can't locate a name or other info. Reviewing a number of posts including the lengthy one from NickN, I might be farther ahead to upgrade to a system with more speed and memory and wait for the next generation coming down in a year or two. And at that time, consider whether FS X is for me. I'm an old airline pilot simi type, content to do the routine and predictable. But it would be nice to add some better landscape detail, a 767 and some of the Airbus products. Thanks.
