I'm getting left behind with my amd64 3400, very old now so I'm going to upgrade and I believe this is the best price I can get + I can pick up from the store just down the road so no delivery charge.

can you recommend a nForce 680i board for quad core?? I chose this board because it has DDR3.

I have this board

If you want go to for DDRIII, then go with the Asus P5k3 Premium, it's the best p35 board available that supports DDRIII. Oh, by the way... those RAM modules you posted above are DDRII so choose some DDRIII or go for DDRII and choose another motherboard (Go for the Asus P5k Deluxe or Premium for DDRII).

The DDR2 ram was at a good price that was all, DDR3 ram is a little expensive but It will come down then I'll change to DDR3 as this board supports both types.

Well, I don't think the board supports both types because DDRII sockets are different from DDRIII's so that people can't install DDRII modules on DDRIII sockets and vice versa. If the board does indeed support DDRII and DDRIII, then it'll only let you have 2 modules of either type of RAM and that might not be good in the future if you want to upgrade to 4GB (4x1GB) or 8GB (4 x 2GB).

That board does support both DDR2 and DDR3
There are limits to the amount of DDR3 it supports but it will run both
It also only supports a 4 pin CPU power plug and does not use the 8 pin with the secondary power system for quads like the P5K3 so overclocking a quad will be limited

Oh... I forgot to mention, if I were you, I would go with DDRII because it is much cheaper than DDRIII and if you get fast and high performance DDRII modules (from Corsair or Crucial) you will be able to get really good performance out of them. I just don't think it's the right time to move to DDRIII.... maybe late this year or early next year.
